Intentional Leadership, Lasting Connections

President Scott D. Miller Releases New Edition of National Higher Education Thought Leadership Series

University News | June 8, 2026

èßäÊÓƵ University President Scott D. Miller, Ph.D., has released the 2025–2026 edition of the President to President thought leadership series, Intentional Efforts in Belonging. The publication brings together the perspectives and experiences of ten college and university presidents who have made belonging a central part of their leadership philosophy and campus culture.

For twenty-three years, Dr. Miller has guided the nationally recognized series, which serves as a forum for university presidents to share ideas, address challenges, and explore opportunities shaping higher education. Following the passing of his longtime collaborator and friend, Dr. Marylouise Fennell, RSM, Ed.D., in 2022, the series is now dedicated to her memory and lasting contributions to higher education leadership. This year's edition examines one of the most important challenges facing colleges and universities today: fostering a true sense of belonging. Through real-world examples and practical leadership strategies, contributing presidents share intentional efforts to build community, encourage engagement, and strengthen connections among students, faculty, and staff. While each institution's approach is unique, a common theme emerges throughout the publication: belonging requires purposeful action, thoughtful leadership, and a commitment to creating environments where every member of the campus community feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Since 2016, President to President has been published with support from Sodexo, which provides publishing assistance while maintaining no editorial influence. In 2023, Dr. Miller welcomed two new assistant editors, Katelyn M. Sanders, Pharm.D., and Kelly R. Cordova, M.B.A., whose partnership helps continue the series' tradition of fostering thoughtful dialogue and innovation across higher education.
